Dear Ms. Parte,
I apologize for my take on the issue. I was not aware that I was being misled.
Indeed I feel for those people who have labored to create and then find that others take claim for their talents, present company included. It is inexcusable to knowingly do so. However, my blog post was only from the point of view of a fan who has, indeed, been in the position of being so inspired to write -- just from reading someone else's work -- that I ran to the nearest computer to start typing. Is it dangerous? Yes. With those beautifully-wrought phrases still ringing in my ears, of course it is dangerous to try to fashion new sentences myself. Do I still risk it? Yes, because inspiration is not something I throw away lightly.
I am sure that you understand that I am not defending plagiarism in any form by anyone (including Ms. Night Orchid); I merely wanted to relate my own experiences on the issue.
I also took the time to read "Ellie" once again and more carefully, and I must say that I very much admire it and can understand why one would be inspired by it. Even through all of this mess, I hope that your gift to others by inspiring them (despite the danger inherent in that) still can give you some joy.

Dear Mr. Grange--

I thank you for bringing the story of Ms. Night Orchid's theft of my story, "Ellie," to your readers, but I must clarify a few things.

In writing "Teach," Ms. Night Orchid did not innocently "emulate" a "passage" from a text that had "inspired" her.

She STOLE the exact syntax, diction, voice, style and even setting of a story I wrote years before. In all there are seven distinct sections--not mere words, sentences or "passages"-- of blatant cut and paste in question here. The fact that her story and mine are "entirely different" in terms of plot is wholly irrelevant.

There is absolutely no way to see this as "accidental," and if my saying so here coupled with Clean Sheets' removal of "Teach" and the rest of her archived work (and her own dismantling of her website) isn't persuasive enough, then I am happy to share with you and your readres a passage-by-passage comparison of the offending text with my own, original work.

Please don't feel badly for Alicia Night Orchid. She is a widely-published author who most definitely understands the ethical and practical ramifications at stake here. She knows what she did was wrong and no amount of "wonderfully graceful" spin should convince intelligent readers otherwise.

If you really want to feel bad, do so for the countless writers who work hard to make original art from ideas and words only to find them ripped off under someone else's byline.
